Concert Description

Music can affect us in fascinating and exciting ways. When tossing around ideas for a new symphony Beethoven came upon material he thought better suited for an overture. The Namensfeier Overture uses that material delivering an uplifting and celebratory piece of music. Christopher Theofanidis uses a sonorous theme from the 900-year-old visionary Hildegard von Bingen in his work Rainbow Body. The music reaches such an extreme level of exhilaration at the end that one wants to stand and cheer. Melancholy makes an appearance in the scherzo of Antonín Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony, but the exuberance, joyous rush and glee of the final movement has the final say. Also featured is Kathryn Nettleman performing the challenging Dittersdorf double bass concerto. Come, find yourself amidst the beauty and joy of some of the most exciting works in classical music.
