------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cheung Chau is associate conductor of orchestra in residence at University of Connecticut, music director of Central Pennsylvania Symphony and of Sinfonietta Polonia in Poland.  In the coming fall he also serves as director of orchestra in residence at University of Connecticut.

The German Thueringer Allgemein wrote “[Chau] used all colors and dynamic contrasts possible from the orchestra…a full identification with the composer’s yearnings (Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique)…the audience was so captivated that a moment of silence followed, after which the tension exploded in unending applause.”

Invited by Edo de Waart, Chau led the Hong Kong Philharmonic in the 2007 world live broadcast opening ceremony of the 10th anniversary celebration of Hong Kong’s Handover.  Chau guest conducts around the globe including with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Filharmonica Marchigiana and Nordhausen Philharmonic Orchestra, among many others.  Praised for his exciting programming, Chau increased audience attendance and led Sinfonietta Polonia to an award for best cultural event in Poland.  He leads Sinfonietta Polonia in tours in Germany, China, Poland, and France, and leads the Central Pennsylvania Symphony in collaborations with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and First Lutheran Fine Arts Series.  As an educator Chau works regularly with students in school ensembles in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Poland and Hong Kong.

Chau received the first double doctorate in the history of the New England Conservatory in conducting and cello.  As cellist, Chau performs with Atma Trio in USA, China, and Europe.  Chau can be heard as conductor and cellist on Polish label Acte Preable.
